Trip to France (Bourgogne-Spring 2010)...Dinner at La Buissonniere

This evening, we met with the rest of the group...Ian, Renee, Kristen, and Rosy, who also arrived in Beaune from L.A. today. For this whole coming week, we will travel Burgundy together. It's a great group of people with international backgrounds, and we all LOVE Burgundy wines.

We had our "kick-off" dinner at a local bistro, Le Gourmandin (8, place Carnot 21200 Beaune). They serve traditional Burgundian (bistro-style) cuisine.

Since it was my very first day in Burgundy, I went for the very classic Burgundian dishes...

La douzaine d'escargots de bourgogne. Traditional-style escargot. Very classic and just wonderful. The parsley-butter sauce was right on and the snail meat had the very nice texture.

Poulet de Bresse roti, Pomme puree. Roasted chicken from Bresse with potato puree. The dish was for two, so Lynne and I shared it. Bresse chicken is one of the most prestigious breed of chicken. The texture was so dense and the flavor was so concentrated. Wow. Just for this dish, it felt like it was worth coming all the way to Beaune.

We had aperitif and also opened a few wines.
2003 Simon Bize, Savigny-les-Beaune had a little reduction note, but it opened up after 10 minutes and went nice with the escargots.
2006 Domaine G. Roumier, Chamboll-Musigny 1er Cru, "Les Cras" was showing so bright and balanced.
2001 Domaine Roblet Monnot, Bonnes-Mares was chewy and had the extracted fruitiness.
