It was a pretty chilly morning here in Burgundy, today. We drove to Domaine Michel Gros in Vosne-Romanee for our first appointment.

Michel’s assistant, Juliette hosted the tasting in their cave.

Michel Gros’ wines are very opposite from yesterday’s Benjamin Leroux, so to speak. Many of their upper cru’s wines, including Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru, “Clos de Reas” (monopole) use heavy-toasted new oak, and the flavors are quite forward and modern. We tasted lineup of different appellations from different vintages, and it was very interesting. We even tasted Aligote (from Hautes-Cotes-de-Nuits).

After the visit, we drove by Clos Vougeot and Musigny vineyards…amazing view.
