Trip to France (Bourgogne-Spring 2010)...Bike ride to Domaine Comte Senard in Aloxe-Corton

The weather forecast said there was 60% chance of rain today, but luckily it was just cloudy and cool during the day. That meant it was a perfect weather for our scheduled biking!

After visiting Alex Gambal, we rented bikes and left Beaune.

We biked through Savigny-les-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses...through the picturesque views of vineyards and historical towns. Feeling the region with my whole body like this was such a special experience.

Just around noon, we got to Domaine Comte Senard in Aloxe-Corton. We had a tour of the domaine and wine tasting lunch there.

Comte Senard's monopole vineyard, "Corton Clos des Meix" is located literally right in front of their property. It's a very small vineyard. The middle section is planted with Chardonnay (for this, it's labeled as "Corton Blanc" (without the vineyard's name).

Classic local-style lunch was served with 8 different wines from the domaine.

Jambon Persille (terrine of boiled ham and parsley) with mache salad. I really loved this classic terrine. It was especially nice with Dijon mustard.

Coq au Vin (chicken, stewed in Burgundy red wine sauce) was served with Gratin Dauphinois (potato gratin). When in Burgundy, you must eat Coq au vin at least once! The sauce was so authentic and great.

Fromages...cheese course of Brillat Savarin, Citeaux, and Epoisse. Epoisse was so perfectly a point (ripe)!

Pain d'Epices Maison (homemade spice cake). Nicely dense and very tasty. I got their home recipe, so I want to try it at home (but I need to translate it first...)

We were spoiled with very nice wines, including Corton Charlemagne, and Corton Clos des Meix.

Both Philippe (the owner) and his wife came to our table to chat. They were very nice people and we enjoyed meeting them very much.
