After visiting Domaine Chevalier Pere et Fils, we all walked to La Buissonniere (2, impasse Villot - 21550 Ladoix-Serrigny), which is literally right across from the domaine.
We were there to celebrate Claude's (the owner of Domaine Chevalier) birthday. The kitchen of this beautiful restaurant is run by one of 5 daughters of Claude!
We had the "first" toast with Paul Roger, Champagne Brut. The soft mousse was quite elegant in this Champagne. We had Champagne with the Amuse-bouche, which was Quenelle of crab meat in asparagus soup. The soup had the nice exotic spicy flavor.
From their menu, I started with Sushi de Canard Fume (smoked duck sushi rolls). I didn't expect to see "sushi" in the menu of this very French-style restaurant in the heart of Burgundy! So, I had to try it. The presentation was unique with a syringe stuck in one of the sushi roll cuts. The sauce was a soy-base sauce, and went well with the rich smoky duck breast.
My main course was Saint-Jacques et Ris de Veau (scallops with veal sweetbread), which was served with cannelloni with vegetable filling. The dish had the very balanced flavors. Sweetbread was especially nice.
After the cheese course, we sang happy birthday for Claude! Claude's daughter/ chef of the restaurant came to greet us, too.
For his own birthday, Claude opened a couple of wonderful wines from his own cellar. We also ordered a few other wines from the restaurant. Here's the rest of the wines we had.
2003 Domaine Chevalier, Corton-Charlemagne, was so elegant and had a very long finish.
2007 Etienne Sauzet, Puligny-Montrachet, had the classic Puligny minerality.
2004 Domaine du Clos Frantin, Vosne-Romanee, 1er Cru, "Les Malconsorts", was spicy and had the sexy aroma.
1993 Domaine Chevalier, Corton, tasted so young (with some tannins), and extremely well-structured.
What a wonderful night we had! Happy Birthday, Claude.
