Our last visit today was Chevalier Pere et Fils in Ladoix-Serrigny.
Claude Chevalier, the owner of the domaine, hosted our visit. First he took us to his vineyards. Looking over the beautiful Corton vineyard was really something.
We drove to the domaine and did a tasting. Claude gave us a tasting of both 2009 barrel as well as 2008 and 2007 vintages.
I've never so extensively tasted Ladoix and Aloxe Corton wines side by side before, so it was really interesting to find the terroir differences of vineyards from these villages. Ladoix tasted to be much more approachable at its young stage.
We also tasted his different Corton barrels/ vinetages. Even the youngest Corton from the barrel had already developed the great complexity, and I was so excited about its potential after bottled.
Today was Claude's birthday! So we were going to have dinner together to celebrate after the tasting. Before leaving for dinner, we had an aperitif of Kir Royal...made from their Cremant de Bourgogne and Creme de Cassis. Claude showed off his magical skill to cut open the wine's bottle neck with a wine glass...it was so impressive!
