Our dinner tonight was at this very homey local bistro called, Ma Cuisine (Passage St-Helene - 21200, Beaune).
This small restaurant which is owned by a husband-and-wife team (wife is the chef) is very popular among both locals and tourists.
They serve classic Burgundian cuisine. Their menu is reasonably priced and the wine list is contains extensive selection of gems from Burgundy.
I started with Salade de Foie Volaille (Chicken liver salad). It was one of the best chicken liver I've ever tasted! In fact, it really tasted like Japanese "yakitori" chicken liver. The flavor was so deep and incredible. Mache salad was nicely flavored, too.
My friend's Beef Carpaccio looked very nice, too.
My main course was Magret de Canard Roti (Roasted duck breast). I asked for "medium", because I knew that medium in their standard is very rare-side of "medium-rare" in our standard. And, I was right. I really liked the rustic beauty of this dish. The duck meat was so juicy, dense, and so flavorful. It was cooked perfectly.
After the main course, we had the cheese course, and drank more wine.
Here's our wine list tonight.
2000 Michel Nielon, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru, "La Maltoire". It took about 15 minutes for the wine to open up. Nice minerality with the standing acidity.
2002 Coche-Dury, Bourgogne Rouge. What a nice find! Wow, the wine had the beautiful cherry flavor with the elegant smooth texture.
2002 Jean Boillot, Volnay 1er Cru, "Les Chevrets". Nice balance with the mild tannins and dark berry flavor.
1993 Camille Giroud, Beaune 1er Cru, "Les Rebersees". It was a little off, but it could've have been a nicely aged wine.
2006 Domaine G. Roumier, Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru, "Clos de la Bussiere". Very young taste. Dense and juicy.
We had so much wine all day again today...all lovely Burgundian.
