Our afternoon visit was Domaine Lamarche in Vosne-Romanee in Cote-du-Nuits.
This domaine was established in 1797, and the current owner, Francois Lamarche, is the 5th generation.
Nathalie, who is a niece of Francoise and also in charge of marketing, hosted our visit.
She guided us to their cave and gave us tastings of 2009 wine (barrel tasting) as well as 2008 and 2007. Their Grand Cru vineyard, La Grand Rue, is Lamarche's monopole. It's a small vineyard and the production of this Grand Cru is only about 30 barrels. 2009 barrel tasting of La Grand Rue was something so special. It was spicy and big (just finished the malolactic fermentation) and showed the great potential. I was also very impressed by 2008 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru, "La Croix Rameau" 1er Cru. This vineyard is tucked inside of Romanee St-Vivant. It's such a tiny vineyard (21.97 accres) and the productions is only 3 barrels! 2008 vintage was bottled just last week.
After the tasting, we took a short ride to visit their vineyards.
La Grand Rue vineyard...very old vines.
Right next to La Grand Rue is Romanee-Conti.
Seeing these vineyards real was a very special experience. Real terroir.
