I came back to Japan a few days ago. I'm staying with my family in Urawa for almost 2 weeks. Since I've been under the weather, I just want to relax and heal as much as I can in this stay.
For the first few days, I'm hitting the very local places I like for noodles. First night was a soba joint. They make the very nice homemade soba and udon noodles. I had the soup soba and summer tempura including kisu fish and summer mountain herbs. My nephew, Wataru, had the cold udon ("zaru udon") with tempura.
Starting June, many Chinese restaurants serve "Hiyashi Chuka" (Chinese-style cold noodle dish). I had the tofu salad and hiyashi chuka. My seafood hiyashi chuka was so delicious.
At my #1 hole-in-the-wall joint, Nyan Nyan in Kita-Urawa, I had their super simple and rustic Yakisoba (fried noodles). I never get tired of their yakisoba or gyoza. I love the flavor of the "oil" of this dish, but it never makes my stomach feel heavy.
