Before heading to the airport to fly to Maui, we stopped by at Ono Hawaiian Foods on Kapahulu Ave. for lunch. I've been to this restaurant several times and I always like their food. They serve very rustic Hawaiian dishes, including kalua pig, lau lau, and oxtail stew.
This time, I had Butterfish luau, poi, and a bowl of rice. Butterfish luau was a stew dish. Salted butterfish (black cod) was simmered in the stew of taro leaves. It was nice. And, poi, which is basically mashed (pounded) cooked taro root. It has a nice sour taste with the slimy texture. I like poi on its own or also with cooked food.
I got the nice power from the healthy Hawaiian lunch.
