Back in Japan (Osaka - November 2010)...Local gourmet in Osaka

After spending a night in Iga, I took another express bus to Umeda district of Osaka. It's only about 1.5 hours from Iga to Umeda. I decided to spend one night here before going to Kyoto to get together with friends there.

For lunch, I went to a very popular Osaka-style "Negi-yaki" place. The line was already long when I got there and it grew longer and longer. After waiting for over half an hour, I was finally let in.

"Negi-yaki" (scallion pancake) is another very local stlyle okonomi-yaki (savory pancake). In this version, they add a few huge handfuls of minced green onions to the pancakes before pressing them on the griddle. Once a pancake is cooked, it's served to the hot griddle in front of you, and you can serve yourself by cutting it with a spatula.

I ordered their seasonal oyster Negi-yaki with an extra topping of pork belly. The flavor was very "Osaka".

For dinner, I went to a popular sushi place. I ate too much.
